Marking points

M1 · 1 mark · Correct reactants and products (include ions and molecules); both sides balanced.

A1 · 1 mark · All state symbols correctly given as (aq) for ions and (aq) or (l) for halogens as relevant.

Worked solution

Bromine water reacts with potassium iodide solution. The bromine displaces the iodide ions from solution. Potassium ions are spectator ions and are left out of the ionic equation.
