Marking points

B1 (a) · 1 mark · Correctly states 'insoluble' for lead(II) sulfate.

B2 (b) · 1 mark · Correctly states 'soluble' for potassium carbonate.

Worked solution

a) Lead(II) sulfate is insoluble in water because most common sulfates are soluble, except for lead(II), barium, silver and calcium sulfates.

b) Potassium carbonate is soluble in water because all potassium salts are soluble, including potassium carbonate.
