A1 (a) · 1 mark · Equation balanced: .

Worked solution

Combustion of propane produces carbon dioxide and water:

Balance C: 3 on both sides.

Balance H: 8 on left, so need 4H2O (4 d 2 = 8 H).

Balance O: right side has 3 x 2 (CO2) + 4 x 1 (H2O) = 6 + 4 = 10 O; so 5O2 needed on left.
