Marking points

M1 · 1 mark · Moles of ethene correctly calculated or set up correctly.

A1 · 1 mark · Mass of water calculated as 4.5 g (allow 4.50 g or answers within 0.1g).

Worked solution

Equation:

Moles of ethene = 7.0 g / 28 = 0.25 mol

Mole ratio of ethene : water is 1:1, so need 0.25 mol water.

Mass of water needed = 0.25 × 18 = 4.5 g
