Marking points

M1 · 1 mark · Identifies using the intersection points or root finding method.

A1 · 1 mark · Both values x = 2 and x = -2 given.

Worked solution

The intersection of the parabola y = x^2 - 4 with the x-axis (y = 0) occurs when x^2 - 4 = 0, so x^2 = 4, hence x = 2 or x = -2.
