Show answer

(a) 108 m

(b) 4 min 10 s

Also accept: seconds only for part b

Common mistakes: Not converting units; Mixing up time and distance formulae

Marking points

M1 (a) · 1 mark · Substitutes into s = v × t using 2.4 and 45.

A1 (a) · 1 mark · Correct calculation: 2.4 × 45 = 108 m.

M1 (b) · 1 mark · Uses t = s / v for part b; arrives at 250 s or correctly converts to 4 min 10 s.

Worked solution

a) distance = speed × time = 2.4 × 45 = 108 m

b) time = distance / speed = 600 / 2.4 = 250 s, which is 4 minutes 10 seconds.
