Show answer

Must show: Reference to short wavelength and high frequency for both, Recognition they are both higher in frequency than UV

Also accept: Gamma rays and X-rays both have very short wavelengths and very high frequencies; they are at the high-frequency end of the spectrum

Common mistakes: Mentioning energy only without frequency/wavelength

Marking points

B1 · 1 mark · States that both have very short wavelengths or very high frequencies.

B2 · 1 mark · States they are at the high-frequency (or short wavelength) end of the EM spectrum.

Worked solution

Gamma rays and X-rays are at the same end because both have the shortest wavelengths and highest frequencies in the spectrum. They are more energetic and beyond ultraviolet.
