Marking points

M1 · 1 mark · States hydroelectric is renewable because water is continually replaced by the water cycle.

M2 · 1 mark · States that hydroelectric power does not use up the water resource.

I1 · 1 mark · Explains how building dams/reservoirs can damage habitats, spoil landscapes, or change wildlife areas.

Worked solution

Hydroelectric power is renewable because the water cycle continually replaces the water in reservoirs; the resource does not run out. However, building hydroelectric dams creates reservoirs that flood large areas, spoiling natural landscapes and destroying or altering habitats for wildlife.
