Marking points

M1 · 1 mark · Correctly states gases have much more space between particles.

M2 · 1 mark · States that solid particles are packed closely together, leaving little space to compress.

Worked solution

Gases are easily compressed because their particles are far apart, with much empty space between them. In solids, particles are tightly packed with hardly any space to push them closer.
